about

Materiaal Series, Part 050

A performance set of improvised electronic music, recorded at July 30, 2021, in Berlin, Germany.

Composed, programmed, and recorded in real-time by a crazy mind and his laptop. No prepared sequences, patterns, or melodies used.

For the last six years, Bernhard has regularly been releasing various recordings of live performances, collaborative sessions and sonic experiments, as well as older music that has not yet been released as part of his Materiaal Series. The Materiaal Series is meant to be unplanned, improvised, and raw; nonetheless, the caliber of the recordings is on par with those of typical studio releases as each release is carefully edited and mastered.
This current 50th release is a set of impromptu performed electronic music, recorded in one pass at July 30, 2021, in Berlin, Germany. It embraces a completely new live composition technique: a cutting-edge mix of generative systems and improvisation Bernhard has developed for his musical space travels.

Artist Christine Kriegerowski provides the visuals for the Materiaal Series, freely channeling the music while creating via colored pencils, pens, watercolors, or pictures identifying with the creation of the music, a place, or an anecdote inspired by her own listening experience. Bernhard has started creating animations from her improvised drawings; this time she has assembled many godmothers and godfathers – of her drawings and of Bernhard's music – in a group picture over the image of a golden wedding anniversary in the 1950s.
